National Grandparents Day 2020

Officially National Grandparents Day 2020 will be on Sunday, September 13, 2020, but we celebrate our grandparents every day here at Meals on Wheels San Antonio.

The first National Grandparents Day was celebrated in 1979 and is held the first Sunday after Labor Day each year in September. The idea was introduced by Marian McQuade in 1956 when she encouraged the youth to adopt a grandparent and learn more about their lives, past challenges, and goals for the future. This is a great idea as we find by daily proof that our clients have a wealth of knowledge and experience we can all learn from.

This year, we encourage you to safely spend time with your grandparents and any older person you know. You can do this with a phone call, a video call, or dropping by to check in on them 6 feet apart. Let them know that they are valued and love, and their thoughts and dreams matter.

If you notice that their medical, physical, or home condition has deteriorated please make the call to us to help you help them. Our number is 210.735.5115. We can help provide meals, small home repairs, friendship, and nutrition. And if we are not the right fit for your loved one we will give you resources that can help.

Let's challenge ourselves to celebrate National Grandparents Day every day.
