Meals on Wheels San Antonio is offering limited on-site volunteer opportunities. Join us to help us achieve our mission of promoting the dignity and independence of our seniors. Also learn more about the inner workings of our organization and develop valuable job skills while meeting friendly faces.
We understand that our on-site volunteers are putting themselves at increased risk. We are doing everything we can to protect our volunteers and staff by following CDC recommendations. Volunteers working on-site must wear masks during their service and practice social distancing.
Court-appointed volunteer hours can be fulfilled through some of these on-site volunteer opportunities, in addition to other assigned tasks. Court-appointed volunteers will not be given access to client files, volunteer files and other confidential information. For more information, please refer to our Background Check Policy and Procedure.
Volunteers will provide administrative assistance to Meals on Wheels' staff. The Administrative Support Volunteer may perform the following duties such as data entry, clerical support and other assigned duties. Volunteers can support our staff by contacting clients in need of services. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the inner working of our organization and the services we provide. **This can also be a virutal opportunity for our volunteers.**
MEAL DELIVERY DISTRIBUTION
Every Monday to Thursday from 9:30-11:30am, our Community Engagement team organizes a drive-thru style volunteer line to distribute route sheets and meals to our Meal Delivery Volunteers. Volunteer duties may include the following: setup/breakdown, loading vehicles with meals, packing sides and drinks and other assigned tasks.
SHELF STABLE BOXES
Meals on Wheels needs volunteers, preferably groups, to help pack shelf stable boxes. These boxes contain shelf stable food items that are equivalent to two meals. These boxes are delivered to our clients approximately ever quarter and every major holiday by our staff drivers and volunteers. Individuals interested in this volunteer opportunity will be grouped with other volunteers.
From time to time, we need assistance with a wide variety of miscellaneous tasks. This may include, but are not limited to: unpacking and organizing the pet food in our AniMeals room every month; or assembling gift favors for special events or projects. We are also in need of a volunteer to help host a video meeting every Friday morning from 10:30-12:00pm for our Grace Notes choir.
