The Picture of Gratitude: Your Kindness Changes Lives
Jim, a northside San Antonio resident, lives with his cat, Lucas, in an apartment full of photographs. However, these are no ordinary photographs.
Jim is one of 20 master photographers in the San Antonio area, and he's captured all his travels on film. Now in his 70s, Jim may not travel as much, but he can revisit all the places he's been by looking around his apartment and sharing stories with Meals on Wheels volunteers.
Originally from West Virginia, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served for five years. During this time, he learned the art of photography. After his time in the Navy, he attended photography school in Pensacola, Florida. Jim moved to San Antonio in 1981, establishing a successful studio photographing families, landscapes, and more than 3,000 weddings throughout his career!
He recently qualified to receive meals after experiencing health hurdles, including difficulty walking, going to the grocery store, and cooking meals.
The daily meal deliveries give him strength, and the friendly "hello" the volunteers provide brightens his day. Jim says Meals on Wheels is a "wonderful thing to help us who are in declining health... to have at least one warm meal a day."
Lucas also receives food thanks to AniMeals, our monthly supplemental pet food program.
