About June
Every weekday, June wakes up early and gets all her chores done, including watering her plants and feeding her birds. She makes sure to complete these tasks so she has time for her daily visits with her Meals on Wheels San Antonio meal-delivery volunteer, Charlene. After months of being on Charlene's meal delivery route, June knows she can count on the friendship that her volunteer provides with every meal she delivers.
June became a Meals on Wheels San Antonio recipient after breaking her hip and facing walking impairments. This hurdle showed her how it can be very difficult to cook while using a walker. Her daily delivery became a life-saver when she suffered a fall. Charlene, delivering a route, knew something was wrong when she didn't come to the door for her meal. Together, they were able to contact emergency services and prevent her from panicking further. Now, June is able to continue enjoying the meals and "knowing someone is at the door is magnificent."
"If Meals on Wheels was not available, I don't think I could live independently."
