Serving Seniors Well

Dear Meals on Wheels San Antonio Volunteers,

We truly appreciate your help delivering over 4,000 meals to homebound seniors every day! Together, we are working so no senior in Bexar County goes hungry.

While you assist us in providing much needed nutritional support to our clients, we ask that you would be mindful of some changes in our procedures to be implemented beginning April 2018. These changes were discussed at length, with our clients at heart, and will allow us to deliver the best possible service to them and their loved ones.

1. In the highest consideration of our clients who may be taking prescription medications, planning doctors’ appointments, or are generally hungry, we ask you that you please pick up meals from your designated pick-up location as close to 11 AM as possible. This will allow us to honor our lunchtime delivery with more consistency and to deliver a hotter fresher meal. Any meals not picked up by 12:30 PM are likely to be delivered by a staff person to ensure everyone we are serving receives a safe-to-eat meal each day.

2. Our clients’ safety and privacy are of the highest priority to us here at Meals on Wheels San Antonio. In an effort to better protect their personal information and ensure their safety, we ask that you please call us at (210)735-5115 ext.311 to report any person on your route that did not receive a meal. This will allow our team to take a meal if one was forgotten and to check in on any client who did not answer the door. This also minimizes the risk of client’s private information potentially being mishandled by email.

3. Lastly, we currently have over 50 pick-up locations in Bexar County. While we are thrilled to have so many willing community partners, we are working hard to transition to fewer sites. This will allow us to run at peak efficiency and to deliver warmer, fresher meals to our clients. Having fewer sites also helps us keep a better eye on all of the routes so that each client gets a meal every day.

We know these will be big changes for everyone and that, without you, so many seniors in Bexar County might not get the help they need. We never take change lightly, as we know all we do affects those we serve, but we truly believe that all of these changes will help us serve more seniors in a better way.

We are experiencing tremendous growth and we are so excited to see how much more we will do together this year. Thank you for your willingness to help serve those in need in our community and for helping us to be a better organization each day.
