October 15, 2025 - Meals on Wheels San Antonio, a nonprofit dedicated to providing nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks to 3,500 homebound seniors, announced that services for 350 clients previously scheduled to be suspended next month will temporarily continue, thanks to an outpouring of support from the local community of over $600,000.
Recently, Meals on Wheels informed 350 clients and the public that significant funding shortfalls would force the organization to begin suspending services as early as November. However, in the days since sharing the news, community members, foundations, and corporate partners have stepped up, allowing the organization to continue serving clients through early 2026.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who rallied behind our seniors,” said Vinsen Faris, CEO of Meals on Wheels San Antonio. “This support means that individuals who rely on us won’t lose access to vital services — at least not yet.”
While the continuation of services is a hopeful development, funding remains uncertain, and Meals on Wheels cannot guarantee how long services will continue without sustained support.
“We want to be transparent — this is a temporary solution. We are doing everything in our power to secure long-term funding, but we need continued community support to keep delivering nutritious meals to the seniors who need it the most,” said Faris. “Those we serve are the unseen and often forgotten about, but we haven’t forgotten them, and we get to remind them about how much the community cares every time we knock on a door.”
Meals on Wheels is inviting individuals, businesses, and philanthropic partners to consider recurring monthly donations, which make it possible to sustain services and reach more people in need.
