September 18, 2025 - Meals on Wheels San Antonio was again awarded the City of San Antonio’s Department of Human Services’ Healthy Eating Aging and Living (HEAL) Nutrition Program Contract to continue providing approximately 2,300 daily meals to adults 60 years and older in neighborhood senior centers.
The San Antonio City Council granted the Senior Nutrition Program contract to Meals on Wheels San Antonio at the Sept. 18 council meeting. The contract term is Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 20, 2029, with a one-year renewal option, valued at an estimated $19,439,588. The Senior Nutrition Program is supported with pass-through federal funds from the Older Americans Act through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services through the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) and is currently offered at various senior centers throughout the city. The city has provided the meal program since 1973.
In addition to their ongoing experience in senior nutrition, Meals on Wheels’ performance in serving the senior centers over the last five years was key to receiving the contract again. Meals on Wheels staff prepare and deliver meals to 44 sites in and around San Antonio. The meals must comply with the Federal Senior Nutrition Program grant requirements and Metro Health Food Safety Guidelines. Spouses of adults 60-years and older and children with disabilities are also provided meals in the Senior Nutrition Program.

“It is an honor to again receive this vote of confidence from the San Antonio City Council,” said Vinsen Faris, Meals on Wheels San Antonio CEO. “We started serving the centers during COVID and are so glad that people can be back with their friends to enjoy everything they have to offer. We know it’s not just about the food. It’s the fellowship and friendships that make these centers so special.”
